Thing #15 - Library 2.0

As I was reading about Library 2.0 I realized the our library system is already going that way. I just didn't know that was what is was called (Library 2.0). Many of our library resources are available through our website from outside the library. We also offer free downloading of video through MyLibrarydv and audio through R.E.A.D.S. We offer E-books in our collection and have free WiFi at our main library. As Rick Anderson of UNR Libraries says "we need to find new ways to bring services to patrons". I think that we have a good start on that.

Through our library website our patrons may check for materials in other Tennessee public libraries and the World Cat and then make Interlibrary loan requests. Interlibrary loan is way to expand our services using other libraries resources.

There were so many things to digest about Library 2.0 that I hope I have made an somewhat coherent blog entry.

Thing #14 - Technorati

I have now investigated the Technorati site. I looked at the list of top searches, top blogs and top favorite blogs listed under Popular. I did a search for Learning 2.0 and did find the results different. I found the blogs the most interesting - some libraries do more than 24 Things. I didn't claim my blog because I really can't see myself using Technorati.

Thing #13 - Del.icio.us

I have watched and listened to the information on del.icio.us, as well as, visited the website. I found this information very interesting. I can definitely see how using tags would be helpful to the Reference staff. We frequently have students working on the same or similar projects (i.e. Greek mythology, black inventors, inventions, etc.). Having tags for sites with useful information would really help.

Thing #12 - Rollyo

I finally have created a search roll using Rollyo. While I listed sites I go to I'm not sure how often I will go to Rollyo to access them. I enjoyed the challenge of the exercise.

Thing # 9

Checked out some other the other feeds to add to my Bloglines account. Feedster link was no good so I couldn't go there. I added a local news feed from Topix.net and a library feed from Syndic8.com. I found both easy to use. I will investigate Technorati when I get to Thing # 14.

Thing # 11 - The Library Thing

I visited the Library Thing and set up a small personal library; even added a few tags to some of the books. I loved the Book Suggester. This is a really nice tool for me because I love to read.
